The Emelin Theatre is proud to present Nutcracker Dream: Inspired by the work of Rudolf Nureyev and Marius Petipa, this 90-minute family-friendly adaptation by French-American choreographer Carole Alexis is an exquisite interpretation of the beloved holiday classic. Professional dancers of Ballet des Amériques will perform the featured roles of the ballet, with additional roles performed by young dancers from our area selected by auditions.

ABOUT CAROLE ALEXIS | CHOREOGRAPHER
Knighted in the Order of Arts and Letters in France, Carole Alexis is an internationally recognized choreographer, producer, dance educator, and the founding director (2011) of the Carole Alexis Ballet Theatre/Ballet des Amériques, who has won numerous awards. in 2023, she was honored with the Artist Award by ArtsWestchester.
As a Creole choreographer, Alexis draws on the various sources of her rich background with the effect of breaking boundaries in the creation of new possibilities for artistic expression. Raised and trained in Martinique, Brittany, West Africa, and Paris, she developed her unique choreographic signature in her exploration of themes in music, the complexity of emotions, the environment, nature, history, and human interaction. Alexis believes that art, as a kind of universal consciousness, expresses the infinite possibilities of humanity.
A student of Maurice Béjart, Alexis’ choreographic work is rooted in classical ballet training and tradition while drawing upon influences as disparate as children’s games, island rituals, natural phenomena, and modern urban life. Alexis proclaims, “My interest in creating Nutcracker Dream is to bring families and friends together around the essence of what the story represents – namely, the beautiful balance between Marie’s childhood playfulness and her coming of age in the midst of her own circle of family and friends.”
